A lot of people think of Hollywood movies as being squeaky clean before the end of the studio system in the '60s/70s — but if you go back to the films made before enforcement of the Hays Code in 1934, you will find plenty of nudity, swears and rude gestures. Take for instance Robert Armstong's cheerful flipping of the bird in 1932's "The Lost Squadron."

Best remembered today for his performance as Carl Denham, the naturalist-turned-showman responsible for unleashing King Kong on NYC in 1933, Armstrong worked prolifically in the movies from the silent era until the mid-1960s, appearing in 127 feature films (nine in 1928 alone!). He made countless television appearances as well, guesting on "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour," "Lassie," four episodes of "Perry Mason" and more Westerns than you can shake a stick at.

Armstrong died of cancer in 1973, at the age of 82 — only 16 hours ahead of his friend, "King Kong" producer Merian C. Cooper, on whom the character of Carl Denham had been based. But he's still alive and skittering gleefully across the clouds, not a care in the world, any time you wear this new tribute tee.
