Before he developed the world-famous MENTHOLATUM, Wichita founding father and legendary philanthropist A.A. Hyde manufactured and distributed soap and other products made from the yucca plant. The building that once housed the Yucca Company still stands at 1211 E. Douglas, catercorner from the newer Mentholatum Building, erected by Hyde in 1909 (and now serving as the Spice Merchant).
